This Notice supplements Our Privacy Notice by providing key information to You about how We collect and use Personal Information about You.  This Notice is for visitors of Our Sites located in the United States only.   Visitors from other countries should visit the L’Oréal brand site for Your part of the world.  

What Types of Personal Information Do We Collect & How is it Collected?

We collect information that You provide to Us and from Your engagement with Our Sites.  The Personal Information that We collect about You will depend on, for example, Our relationship or interaction with You. We may collect the following categories of Personal Information when You interact with Us by visiting Our Sites and platforms, advertising, media, from third parties who share it with US, and automatically collected (such as through cookies and other similar technologies).:

When you visit our website, we (or third parties) collect information, including cookies (or similar technologies such as pixels, web server logs, web beacons, server-side tracking, etc.) (collectively, “Cookies”). This information relates to you such as your use and interaction with the site, products purchased or considered, your preferences, browsing information, identifiers, your device, and inferences made from this information. We use Cookies on the Site to make the site work as you expect it to, to provide a more personalized web experience, and advertising. We do permit third parties to control the collection of Personal Information about You when You browse Our Sites using Cookies.  Not all third parties may be on every Site.   You may learn more by clicking the “Online Preferences” link on the footer of a Site.

We do use features provided by Our service providers/data processors to collect or associate directly identifying information (such as name, phone number, email address) with other information collected by Cookies.  This feature allows us to personalize the services on the Site and messages We send to You (e.g., cart reminder emails or texts, requests to leave a review post-purchase).

Our Site also uses features provided by advertising companies (such as Google’s ‘enhanced conversions’ or Facebook’s ‘advanced matching’).  Through these features directly identifying information You provide on Our site (such as a phone number or email address) is provided to them with other information collected by Cookies.   This information is used by these third parties to better connect Your account with these companies with Your activities on our Site to (i) enhance measurement of our advertisements (e.g., identify if an individual saw our advertisement and then visited Our Site), and (ii) identify groups of alike consumers to optimize Our own marketing campaigns.

Reasons why We (or third parties) use Cookies on Our Sites include:  

  1. Essential and Functional Cookies: These Cookies are essential for the Sites to function; allow You to navigate Our Site, create an account, or place orders; manage the security of the Sites (including to detect and prevent fraudulent activity); or provide access to other features and functionality on the Site.  They are usually set in response to actions requesting services, such as setting Your privacy preferences, logging in, using ‘remember me’ functionality, or filling in forms.
    These Cookies also enable enhanced Site functionality and personalization provided by our service providers/data processors.  For example, features and services like web chat services; commenting and rating systems; tools that help us with A/B testing and other research (e.g., survey tools and tools to provide Us with Your feedback); tools We use to personalize Your experience on our Site (e.g., product recommendations, predictive search, predictive sort) and to personalize real-time customer journeys, including across email, SMS, and within Our Site (e.g.,  abandoned cart messages, browsing without buying a product messages, personalized offers, etc.).  These may be set by Us or third-party providers whose services We use.  Providers of these services may use their own analytics cookies (or similar technologies) to measure performance of these services. You may be able to use Your browser’s settings to block or alert You about these cookies, but some parts of the Site may not work properly.
  2. Analytics or Performance Cookies: These Cookies, including Google Analytics and Glassbox, allow Us to count visits and traffic sources, and understand what pages are the most and least popular, so We can measure and improve the performance of Our site. They also help us track and replay a visitor’s journey on Our Sites to understand how visitors move around and interest with the Site.  We also use this information for advertising-related purposes.   We use Google Analytics Advertising Features to share information with Google about Your use of this site to allow Us to deliver relevant and personalized advertising or content to You on other sites and/or to other devices connected to You (cross-device advertising), to receive demographic and interest date from Google, and to create audience segments based on demographic and interest data.  We have enabled the following Google Analytics Advertising Features:  Remarketing with Google Analytics, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, Google Analytics Demographic and Interest Reporting, and integrated services that require Google Analytics to collect data for advertising purposes, including collecting data via marketing cookies and identifiers.   3. Marketing or Targeting Cookies: These Cookies are set through Our Site by Our advertising technology providers, primarily to provide cross-contextual behavioral advertising. They collect information about Your browsing history to build a profile of Your interests and understand Your habits to show You relevant advertisements from Us or other advertisers on other sites and/or to other devices connected to You (cross-device advertising), to limit the number of times You see an advertisement, measure the effectiveness of an advertising campaign, and to improve their products and optimize their own ad targeting systems.  We use these Cookies to measure the effectiveness of Our Ads and to optimize Our own marketing campaigns.

We also use a data management platform (LiveRamp) (“DMP”) that uses Cookies to collect information about visitors to Our Sites. We can augment this online data with offline data We collect and other data We obtain from third parties.  We use this data to help Us create audience segments (e.g., users who left an item in a shopping cart, exclude users who made a purchase) stored within our DMP, which We can later distribute to advertising companies that sell Us advertisements We can also use these Cookies to measure the performance of Our advertisements. Depending on Your state of residence, this Cookie may be classified as functional or marketing/targeting.   

Why is Personal Information Collected?

The purposes for which We collect and use personal information depends on, among other things, Our relationship or interaction with You.  We collect and use this information within the L’Oréal family of brands to, for example:

We combine information that We collect via one method (e.g., from a website or Our digital advertising) with another method (e.g., an offline event).  For example, if You have an account with Us and are logged in, or otherwise provide personal information like an email, We associate information We observe about You with other information You or a third party provide to Us.   We do this to get a more complete view of Your preferences for Our beauty products and services, which, in turn, allows Us to serve You better and with more customization and better beauty products.

How Long Do We Retain Personal Information? 

We will retain Personal Information about You for so long as You maintain an active account on our Site(s), as needed to provide You services, and as necessary to comply with Our legal and/or regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, to manage Our rights, and to enforce Our agreements. We do not control certain privacy settings and preferences maintained by Our social media partners like Facebook and Twitter. If You wish to make changes to those settings and preferences, You may do so by visiting the Settings page of the appropriate social media site.

When Do We Share Personal Information?

  1. General InformationWe share personal information with third parties (vendors, agencies, and businesses) that help Us run Our Sites, Our business, and retail Our products to further L’Oréal’s beauty mission.  We may disclose information to Our service providers, to complete a transaction requested by You, when required by law or authorities, and in the event of a sale or reorganization of Our company.  For more information, please see Our detailed Privacy Notice for consumers here , Our detailed Privacy Notice for Our business customers here, and, if You are a SalonCentric visitor or customer, Our detailerd Privacy Notice for SalonCentric here.  We do not ‘sell’ (as ‘sell’ is traditionally defined) personal information about Our consumers.  We do not make available or provide consumer’s names, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, or other personal information to third parties in exchange for money.  Like many companies, however, We do share or make available personal information with third parties to facilitate Our advertising, including providing You with personalized advertising from Us about Our products and services on other third-party sites or online applications,  In some US States, this type of activity is considered (1) a ‘sale’, (2) a ‘share’ or ‘use’ of personal information for targeted advertising, or (3) both, and subject to a right of opt-out.  Information on how to exercise a right of opt-out is available at the end of this Notice.  For example, some third parties allow Us to serve consumers with online promotions by sending identifiers or contact information (e.g., email, phone number, other identifiers (cookie ID, device ID, pseudonymous ID)) We have collected to the third party.  The third party compares the identifiers or contact information to identifiers in its own database, and, if there is a match, We can use this information to optimize our advertising campaign(s), choose whether or not to serve an advertisement to the matched individual on a third-party site or platform, and measure the effectiveness of Our advertising.  We can also send this information to adtech providers (like demand side platforms) that help Us serve advertisements to You on third-party sites or online applications that participate in online auctions of their ad inventory. Additionally, We make available personal information to third parties through Our use of Cookies provided by third parties on our Sites. Please see information about our use of Cookies, above.   For example, we share or make available online personal information with third parties such as social media platforms or other marketing service companies via Cookies to optimize our marketing campaigns, help us display ads for Our goods and services on third-party sites, and measure the effectiveness of those ads on such third party sites.  These companies use personal information to improve their own products and optimize their own ad targeting systems.
